Comment:
I am commenting on our low tier COMAH inspection by the HSE.

Positives:
Good inspector with a positive handle on our operations, practical advice and adds value to the company not just compliance checking.

Auditing dovetails in well with our Health & Safety policy major acident hazards.

MAPP & compliance essential to our industry.

PSPI measuring and reporting to top management improves confidence on the site safety.

Emergency planning again an essential element and improves confidence.

Validates best practice.

Negatives:
Costly in time and money at around £156/hour. Cannot work out why companies that have had a HSE violation are charged less for their subsequent HSE inspections?. Costs should be subsidised by the government.

Drain on resources and more time spent on COMAH at the expense of COSHH @ general H&S.

Intervention plans, no medium to long term. Would like to see visits scalled down once a good compliance record achieved.
