Comment:
I run a community public house. Myself and my wife enjoy the work and find it worthwhile and to a degree enjoyable. However, we constantly find that we are put under incrediby more and more pressure to maintain a viable business due to certain apects of the trade that make no sense if we are to uphold what we constantly told is a British way of social life in the maintainance of the community pub in this country. The busines rate is the biggest thret to our business. In this time of nationwide hardship, in regard to financial matters, there seems to be no regard to how community pubs can break even, let alone make any sort of living.
If there is a cincerity to continue community pubs to be a part of the heritage of this country, then there has to be a more in-depth inquiry as to how they can operate on a more realistic basis than exists at present.
