I run a pub in Scotland and what gets me is the variation in enforcement standards and approach even within the same local authority – with the introduction of new alcohol licensing standards officers a couple of years ago it is a complete red tape nightmare, these guys come round like little [deleted text] insisting on inspecting the most trivial of paperwork and if it’s not totally t’s crossed and i’s dotted then there’s trouble!!! A real zero tolerance approach – and they’re round all the time – it’s like they’ve nothing else to do but harass us.
Compared to some of the other inspectors like weights and measures, who we hardly ever see at all – it’s just so unbalanced, you’d think the same organisation could get its act together better.
